Name: James Tiberius Kirk
Canon: Star Trek
Timeline: End of the movie.
Personality:
If you were to look up smug, and narcissist in the dictionary, chances are pretty good you'd find a picture of Jim next to both. Other words that might be graced with his face would be reckless, stubborn, and hotheaded. But, all of those fairly negative words aside, Jim is actually an extremely intelligent and mostly kind man. He's the exact opposite of Spock when it comes to anything like logic and emotions. Jim is more likely to leap headfirst into things, trusting his instincts to get him through any problems and he is to stop and actually think things through. However, his instincts usually turn out to be right.
Growing up, he always had his father's death overshadowing anything he did. His father had sacrificed himself to save the crew that had been aboard the USS Kelvin, which was attacked by a Romulan ship on the day of Jim's birth. As he grew up, he was the absolute definition of a wild child, doing things like sending his stepfather's car off a cliff at the age of ten. And unlike most people, Jim never outgrew his rebellious streak.
The night he finally decides to go to Starfleet Academy, he starts a bar fight with a group of Academy recruits. He gets his ass handed to him for a few moments, until Captain Pike breaks it up. After he's cleared the bar out, he tries to talk some sense into Jim. Somehow, he managed to get through to him. Jim seems to have done it mostly just to prove that he could do it in less time than Pike said he could, in an attempt to break out from his father's shadow.
Overall, Jim is fiercely loyal to everyone around him, even people he doesn't particularly like. He gets Spock to step down as acting captain after Pike is captured by Nero, but he still trusts him enough to take him onto Nero's ship to try to get the red matter along with Pike. And he managed to do all that without breaking his promise to the future Spock that he wouldn't let the present Spock know about him. He's generally friendly to everyone he meets, going so far as to tease and nickname people the first time he meets them.
First Person:
[He stared around the station curiously as he stepped off the train. Everything here was so... Old. He couldn't even think of anywhere on Earth that might still look like this, not that he thought he had somehow been taken back there. It didn't take him long to see the watch, and figure out how it worked. Turning it on, he put on his best smirk.]
Alright, who wants to tell me where I am? [He vaguely thought about the fact that alerting everyone to his presence might not be the best of ideas... But, from the little bit of broadcasting he looked at on the watch, he could pretty much tell this wasn't going to get him into any trouble he couldn't get out of.]
Third Person:
Jim had never seen a train like this outside of a history book. Nothing on Earth looked like this train... The fog outside wasn't exactly encouraging. Neither was the strange feeling he got from being on the train. He was pretty damn sure he hadn't fallen asleep in the captain's chair, so he had absolutely no clue where the hell he was, or how the hell he'd gotten there.
Getting up from his seat, he cautiously moved to the next car, not at all surprised by the fact that it was empty. Nor was he surprised that all the other cars were empty. As he entered the last one, the train began to slow, and the fog began to thin. Leaning over a seat, he stared out at the city. Again, he wasn't surprised that this antique train had brought him to an antique city.
Exiting the train as it creaked to a stop, he stared around. He couldn't think of any reason that this would be a dream. He knew for a fact he hadn't fallen asleep, unless Spock or Bones had knocked him out. And he was pretty sure neither of them would have done that. He hadn't been about to lead them into some ridiculously dangerous situation... Or, he hadn't been during the last moments on the Enterprise that he could remember. So, clearly, something else was responsible for this. He just had to figure out what it was, and how the hell to get back to his ship.
